Riding Shotgun is the Redneck Way to Go! – Matt Farris rolls out his “Resident Redneck” bike

You’re driving down the road and you glance in your side view mirror and you see a custom-built hog—then you notice it—a leather scabbard with shotgun in tow. What’s the first thing you think of (other than, pull over and let that dude pass), well, you think, “What a redneck!” And you know what, Matt Farris is perfectly okay with that.

Matt Farris has built a career out of being a redneck with hits such as his first one, Redneck Radio, and his new release, Resident Redneck.  A resident of Nashville, Matt was back in town for the holidays and took time to share his bike with us. “It was a real labor of love for a number of local business owners, most notably Tom Kimes of the Twisted Metal Cycle Shop,” notes Matt. When Matt saw the partially built bike in Tom’s shop he instantly thought, ‘That looks redneck.” That was the beginning of the construction of a 90-day custom build that came complete with a custom frame, paint, and graphics, and a hand stitched leather 12 gauge shotgun scabbard. In fact, R. K. “Rusty” Mauk provided all of the leatherwork, including seat, saddle bag, carb-cover, and strainer. One really has to spend some time with the bike to take in all of the customized redneck features such as a Paughco gas tank with ’75 Chevy gas caps, handle bar plugs made from 12 gauge shells and others. “The project was a joint venture and everyone got into the redneck aspect of building the bike,” stated Matt. All the welding was done locally by The Propeller Company. Kyle at Kyles Kustoms painted the bike in a red/black/patina color and provided all of the custom decals that really added an authentic old-school, redneck feel.

Ferris_Chopper-23  Matt’s redneck bike has garnered plenty of attention at shows, and he’s even ridden it up on stage at concerts.  Matt also plans to take his redneck creation on the road this April as he performs with the likes of Joe Diffie, Colt Ford, Jason Aldean, Joe Farr and others at Country Thunder held in Florence, Arizona.

If you’re traveling down the road and you happen to see Matt on his custom-built, shotgun toting, tricked-out bike, give him a giant shout out—after all, it’s the redneck thing to do.
