Get Hooked!

Fishing—what better place than Lake Havasu? It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned fisherman, a novice, do it for sport, or for dinner, with such a large expanse of water, you know there are a plethora of great spots to catch the big one.

Lake Havasu has been rated #20 in the top 100 lakes for bass fishing in the nation. That’s probably why our beautiful lake recently took part in the Bass Master Elite Tournament, where top anglers came to catch largemouth, smallmouth, and striped bass (although stripers have made for difficult fishing in the past, the numbers being caught have grown over the past few years).

Aside from the excellent bass fishing, there are many other species being hooked. The Redear sunfish have grown to trophy size and carp are more than abundant. And with an average weight of 4lbs. a fish, it looks like there’s some healthy eating in our futures.

No matter what kind of fishing you enjoy, or even if you’ve never gone before, Lake Havasu is a great place to cast your line and land that perfect catch!

Not sure where to go? Here are some prime spots to fish according to species:

Getting your fishing license is as easy as casting your line.

  • Anyone 10 years or older must have a license to fish.
  • A Youth License for those 10-18 years of age costs only $5 and covers fishing as well as hunting.
  • A Regular License for those over 18 costs $37, but that covers you for an entire year (and it includes all the stamps you used to have to pay separately for)!
  • Get your license at Wal-Mart, Big 5, or online at http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/fishing.shtml
