One-Stop Treatment for All of Your Ear, Nose, and Throat AilmentsâIncluding Hearing Aids, Allergy, and Sleep Needs
Before Dr. Devin Cunning and Dr. Michael Prater founded Arizona Coast Ear, Nose, Throat, Allergy, Sleep Medicine and Hearing Aid Center practice in Lake Havasu City in 2000, residents had little recourse other than traveling out of town for treatment. All of that has changed with the growth of their practice. Now, they provide a one-stop service that meets the needs of Mohave County residents.
Dr. Cunning has served as the Chief of Surgery at the Havasu Regional Medical Center (HRMC) as well as a four year stint as Chief of Staff for Havasu Surgery Center. Well traveled, Dr. Cunning completed his undergraduate work at the University of California, Santa Barbara, before securing his Doctor of Medicine degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin. From there, Dr. Cunning completed an internship at the Naval Hospital in San Diego before serving on-board the USS Kitty Hawk as the general medical officer. Following his completion of active duty that involved sailing to Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, and Hawaii, Dr. Cunning moved to Philadelphia, completing his training a the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery.
Because of his extensive training including CPR training, Dr. Cunning is able to offer residents medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the ear, nose, and throat as well as allergies and related structures of the head and neck. He is a diplomat of the America Board of Otolaryngology with dual board certification in sleep medicine, as well as a Fellow of the America College of Surgeons–as well as a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and a Fellow at the American Academy of Otolaryngic Surgery.
Dr. Michael Prater, with a Masterâs Degree in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from California State University, attended medical school at the University of Colorado where he graduated in the Alpha-Omega-Alpha Honor Medical Society as well as receiving the student of the year award two years running. Graduating top of his class in medical school, Dr. Prater went on to study under the renowned head, neck, and cancer specialist, Dr. Byron J. Bailey at the University of Texas. Board Certified by the American Board of Medical Specialists, Dr. Prater is also a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery.
Both doctors are highly skilled, trained, and licensed to treat a wide variety of conditions. They can provide such procedures as cancer surgery of the ear, neck, or head as well as facial reconstruction, nasal cosmetic surgery, and sinus related surgeries. Knowing that polyps, allergies, and infections can adversely affect the sinuses, they often try to treat problems without surgery by prescribing medication and/or allergy injections/immunotherapy that can often resolve an issue.
A mainstay of their practice is treating children since they are prone to infections of the ears, nose, and throat. Strep throat, tonsillitis, and ear infections are common, as are pediatric allergies. Parents can bring their children in for testing, evaluation, treatment, and allergy shotsâall under one roof.
Adults and elderly can also be prone to a variety of ear, nose, and throat conditions. At Arizona Coast Ear, Nose, and Throat, they treat a complex number of symptoms in young and older patients alike.
Another unique service they provide is a full range of audiology services, from hearing testing to more extensive evaluations. They also offer various accessories to help with daily life. Like, tv ears which help when watching the TV. They can also provide diagnostic testing for balance and dizziness problems. They have a full-time audiologist on staff that can perform a wide range of tests. Lisa J. Gibbs, MA-CCCA, is certified by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association. She is also registered and certified by the Arizona Dept. of Health Services for Audiology and Dispensing. In addition, Arizona Coast has Vivian Guerra, an OTO-Tech. Vivian has been trained by the American Academy of Otolaryngology CPOP Program. Vivian is also a licensed hearing aid dispenser. Lisa and Vivian are able to provide services that in the past, residents had to travel out of town to have performed. Their audiology department can evaluate and recommend the best course of treatment for all hearing problems.
In addition, they also offer an on-site hearing aid dispensing service which provides a convenient way to take care of your complete hearing care. Their competitive low pricing, âno gimmicksâ philosophy is aimed to make you feel comfortable and confident when youâre ready to make a major hearing aid purchase.
As part of their complete, one-stop services, Arizona Coast also offers patients a local remedy for sleep disorders, including Home Sleep Testing (HST), Continuous Positive Airway Pressure therapy (CPAP), Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD), and snoring disorders. Dr. Cunning is the only Board Certified sleep medicine physician that can provide both medical and surgical options to treat your sleep apnea. (Sleep Apnea is a sleep disorder consisting of abnormal pauses in breathing or moments of low breathing during sleep).
Other specialized procedures that can be accomplished in-house include CT Scans of sinus and temporal bones and thyroid mass detection using an ultrasound.
Many services that were only treatable with specialists in larger cities are available in-town, in-house, thanks to the expertise and years of experience found at Arizona Coast Ear, Nose, Throat, Allergy, Sleep Medicine and Hearing Aid Center.
