Lake Havasu City welcomes a new addition to the medical community, Dr. Shelley Bengard, D.C. She is the owner/operator of Embody Wellness Chiropractic Center, which offers a wide range of services to take care of the entire body. This type of center has grown to be one of the most recommended approaches to whole body care in the health care industry.
Dr. Bengard is native to California. She graduated from Southern California University of Health Sciences in 2008. She spent the last five years working as a chiropractor out of two very different offices, each office having its own benefit. One office was affiliated with a yoga studio, where she gained knowledge about the importance of balance and core stability. In the alternate office, she became associated with the hospital next door and was a part of their allied staff for two years. The second office was where she gained experience with accident, personal injury and workers compensation cases. Between the two workplaces, she was able to meet a wide variety of patients that were various ages and health conditions.
Lake Havasu City became Dr. Bengard’s new home along with her husband and now one-year-old daughter last August. She opened the doors to Embody Wellness Chiropractic Center in March shortly after the move. The family grew wary of California’s crowd, traffic and hustle and bustle. They found solitude and beauty in Lake Havasu. It only took living here a short time to also realize the overwhelming sense of community. Dr. Bengard states, “I feel so lucky to have found such a wonderful town.”
Dr. Shelley Bengard is energetic and excited to do the work that she does. She explains how chiropractors specialize in the body’s neuromuscular system. This includes but is not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of arms or legs and headaches. She has broad diagnostic skills the most common therapeutic procedure is known as a “spinal manipulation” or “spinal adjustment”. The purpose is to manually restore mobility with a controlled force to the joints that are hypomobile (having restricted motion). This hypomobility results in tissue injury. By restoring mobility it also alleviates pain, muscle tightness, and allows the tissues to heal. (American Chiropractic Association, 2012). Dr. Bengard uses her skills to take all of the body’s biomechanics into account with out focus on a singular symptom.
“The body is so complex,” she states, “If you only focus on the symptoms you may miss the bigger picture.” She further explains that is where the name “Embody Wellness” comes into play. It is not only a name, but also the heart of her practice: “to incorporate the intricacies of the body together to function as a whole.” Along with this whole body approach, Dr. Bengard has compassion and empathy for her patients. She vows not to treat patients as a number, but only as a person.
This young woman looks forward to a bright future here in Lake Havasu. Not only is Dr. Shelley Bengard, D.C. skilled in chiropractic care, but she also has the ability to help patients feel comforted and welcome.
